Suse Printing Problems

For my sins I run Suse Linux on my main PC, and it must be said with great success. Nearly everything I need to do can be achived in Suse and for when I need to run a Windows program I have access (via VNC) to a shared Windows PC.

So as part of my Suse world I will be posting some fixes for problems that have given me grief (especially those where Google doesn't seem to help).

Today's it's when CUPS starts giving out "client-error-bad-request" error messages. I have no idea why this happens, or even what causes it, but the solution seems to be to delete the printer and re-install it. That simple.

Cheers

Shocking, if only it was emails

In a shocking inditement of the folly of sending massive amounts of Junk Mail it transpires that:

US banks send out 1,937 pieces of marketing information for every new sign-up

According to Avivah Litan of the Gartner Group.

Now, even if these bits of junk only cost 10 cents that's a massive $193 that a bank has to recoup. No wonder bank charges are so high, and the service is so crap. They are creaming moeny from you and me to pay for new customers.

Of course, if they replaced all the paper with emails, then they would save money, have more accountability and stop destroying the planet.

Anyway, don't, don't, don't, start me off on Banks!

Email Marketing set to grow

Email marketing in the UK is set to enjoy strong growth this year thanks to rising demand and a move to third party solutions rather than in-house systems.

Once again email marketing is set to grow strongly in the UK. This seems to be driven by a move from in-house solutions to third party ASP and similar services.

E-consultancy has published research which suggests that the UK market will grow 25 per cent from £120m in 2004 to £148m this year, even though basic delivery services are getting cheaper.

Strong demand from eccommerce firms, media and publishing, financial services, technology and travel and leisure companies will help grow the market. Although there is price pressure on basic services, providers are increasingly offering additional services like strategy and copy writing.

This bodes well for the success of my company's Enabler email marketing service
